I am Amith Bushan based in Bangalore, India . I am doing engineering in computers. When I was in eleventh standard, I realised that though I had a decent vocabulary, yet my pronunciations were not up to the mark. I realised it when someone corrected me. It was embarrassing for it was a very common word but I was doing an egregious error while pronouncing it.
It was then I decided to make my pronunciations impeccable or at least near that. I started searching for some book that would point out the errors done by Indians. Most of the books which pointed out the common mistakes targetted either Britons or Americans. I just could not identify with it.
During my quest for indianisms, I found a book called, " Know your English" by an Indian author for Indian audience. It was really helpful but dealt very little with pronunciations. As it is said, " Necessity is the mother of invention", I thought of making keen observations of the people around me and compare the pronunciations to the ones given in dictionary. A year hence, I came up with about 300-350 words..
I had written it in a crude fashion over the vacant spaces in my dictionary. Even lost many words for I lost the wrapper of that dictionary over which I had written many of these words. When a close friend of mine learnt what I had done, also being an english enthusiast, told me to make a soft copy of this and share it with the world. This is when I decided to do this website.
This site is dedicated to my dearest friend VENKY. If not for him, I would have never made a soft copy of these words . He has encouraged me a lot to do this site. I thank him a million.
This website is going to get a usage section. It is really exciting but under construction. So, wait and watch!
If you want to contribute to the wordlist, you can mail me to amith@english.jsplash.com. If there are any corrections or suggestions , kindly inform me. Have fun with the words.
